The wild berries ripening are all over 1840's Farm. I'm getting these ready for the freezer. I like to spread them out on a cookie sheet first and let them freeze a bit, just so they don't freeze into a giant berry block. Then I'll bag them for pie making later on when I have the time.

Plumeria Blossoming
The Plumeria, or "sticks" as we affectionately call them, are blooming. At least one is.
I just found out that, although the rest of the plant is toxic, the blossom is supposed to be edible. Anyone with experience in this?

Tomato Time
Just processed 22 lbs of fresh picked tomatoes into sauce. So good!
Did you know that an easy way to peel tomatoes is to drop them in boiling water for a few minutes? The skins will crack. Then drop into a bowl of ice water for a minute or so. When you pull them out of the ice water, the skins will peel right off with your fingers, many times in a single piece. (Caution....tomatoes may still be hot even after ice water dip.)

Keeping the Government Out of Our Fridge and Pantry
Myself along with many others, are getting.....no...ARE sick and tired of this nanny state mentality that the Feds have. And although I'm not a fan of this administration, this all started before they came into office, so there is plenty of blame to go around for everyone in state, federal and even some local governments.

Personally, I don't think this government would know healthy food or well kept livestock if they trip over it, but I guess the only opinions that count are theirs....or so they think.
Time to get back to writing, screaming, yelling and fighting for your food rights.....again. And if you haven;t already, watch the film "Food, Inc". Remember, just because you may not farm, doesn't mean that these idiot regulations won't affect you. They will!!!!

UPDATES: Stay tuned to the Grassfed on the Hill website for updates!
For the past year and half, the FDA has conducted an undercover sting operation on Pennsylvania Amish dairy farmer Dan Allgyer and his loyal private buying club customers. Last week, the FDA served Dan notice that it is seeking a permanent injunction against him for introducing raw milk into interstate commerce. In response to this affront of our freedoms, Grassfed on the Hill, the DC area buying club he provides for, is organizing the rally to support Dan and other farmers targeted by the FDA, and stand up for all our rights. Please join them and lend your voice. Stings on Amish farms and armed raids against our country's farmers are NOT an appropriate use of our tax dollars!
